I want to share my personal experience of PTCL’s so called “Broadband Internet Service”, how they are treating its customers. I am using ptcl’s DSL (256K) at my home for last two months. In the early days it worked fine but now a days it really sucks. If I calculate its average uptime, it will be maximum 10 hours a day & they are charging me for 24 hours.Problems I am facing are:

  • Disconnect after every 10-30 minutes
  • DSL is synced but IP is not assigning
  • DSL is synced, IP is assigned to my computer but internet is not working
  • Their customer service sucks. I complained many time about these problems, nobody even contacted me.

I talked to their CSR and asked to cancel the DSL service. She told me that you have to goto PTCL’s main office with all the equipments (router etc.) and recent paid telephone bill, so stupid process.

Interesting thing is, my DSL is not syncing while I am writing this review ;)

By the way a good Dial up is much better than PTCL’s DSL service because at least you can continue your online work/assignments. You can change the ISP instantly if you are facing problems but in case of DSL it is a nightmare to change the DSL provider in Pakistan.

    line 1218/1236, along with snaps taken speed of DSL which is to be
    requested for 4mb, from 1MB, but still it is running as 1mb,, hence I
    have paid the bill of 4mb.. It is therefore requested my connection may
    kindly be upgraded from 1mb to 4mb with immediate effects, Now I am
    tired to sent such request day by day. while pay the Bill of 4Mb and
    avail 1MB which is unlawful.

    your internet is working at least for 5 minutes mine is disconnecting about every 1 minute i tried to complaint but they said it will take 24 hours but now it’s been 2 days and nothing changed…….And they are even charging 1000 rupees extra for more then 50 gb downloading……
    Moral:Ptcl sucks……:p

    My PTCL Brodband DSL not provide me service according to our package. We are paying for 4MB but receive speed like Dial Up Connection. We are really very very disturb from this problem because in office have almost 20 employer so all persons disturb i already change many time Phone like and convert DSL on other and new numbers but never receive exact speed. I already complaint many time on PTCL Islamabad but no one do work for us. Please Please try to solve our Problem

    salam!
    m using PTCL broadband. it goes on blinking lites suddenly and if we complain against problem then after a month or more Customer service try to listen and they always repair the line when a legal notice is sent to them.
    and another thing… that the batteries used for the INTERNET PROVIDING SERVER are of low quality. when they xpire net service goes out of order. and PTCL the authorities don’t bother that many ppl are in trouble for their negligence

    hi my name is jehanzeb, i m using ptcl broadband 4mb package for about 2 months and before this o was using 1 MB, it is very big lie that ptcl cutomer service is not good, i say ptcl customer service is the best service within pakistan especially in karachi.they are very quick and even send you a message after resoloving your complain. about your disconnection so i must tell you that replace your ptcl land line wire and then enjoy ptcl broadband.

    I agree with you all about PTCL consumer services as I have also faced it. Since PTCL have millions of DSL subscribers therefore they don’t worry infact they think that their tension will be released after terminating your connection. I think that you have got my point.

    Those of you who are facing DSL issues, they are advised to mention their SNR (Noise Margin + Line Attenuation) figures here.

    The best way – if you want to use PTCL is to give some money to lineman (to switch your line to the new junction box in your street as well as nearest) and the exchange dsl officer (to change your existing pairs with the new one – healthy pairs.

    I was using 1MB DSL connection of PTCL, it works fine but when it goes out of service, no way you can get it on Phone complain service 1218. You have to go personnely to your exchange daily at least one week then if you are lucky they will restor your service in one month and you have to pay the bill for down time also. Recently I disconnected my DSL due to their very bad support service and I wrote letters to their officers but no reply from them. see the letter below which I wrote them.

    “I have been using DSL service for about 20 months during this period it stopped working 3 – 4 times, each time struggle a lot for restoring the service as on 1218 complaint for DSL is not routed properly to DSL section, it always goes to telephone complaint so for that as per your staff advise we need to go personally to launch complaint but for that one trip is not enough each time at least three times I visited then it got restored.

    But lastly my connection stopped working in the beginning of this month, As usual there was no response of my dozens of complaints to 1218, On October, 10, 2010 I launched complaint on your web site(I got an automated reply but no action). Finally from 13-10-2010 I personally visited the North Karachi exchange four days continuously but no action has been taken.

    More than that I could not quit my job to visit North Karachi exchange, I feed up and on 16-10-2010 I applied for termination of DSL service mentioning the reason of bad support service but no use. At last I got rid of this DSL service with very bad impression about PTCL service. I know there is no use of writing this as no one bothered about costumer’s complaint and remarks. PTCL has monopoly in this wired service so they damn care.

    But this is not a got attitude towards subscribers, slowly you will lose majority of subscriber. Now in market many Wimax Internet providers are available with better support and care, although they are bit expensive than PTCL but no headache, we got seamless service with out wasting our time in visiting exchange to solve our issues.”

We do have internet access on both lines but somehow the speed is too slow that our VPN keep disconnecting every 10 mintues and stays off for a while. When call to technical support, that said, everything is fine. Its too hard to narrow down the problem. The question is:

    * Is there any PTCL DSL which offers guaranteed speed i.e 1MB or 2MB
    * Is there any PTCL wireless service which offers guaranteed connection
    * Is there any PTCL service which offeres guaranteed speed without interupptions and without sharing speed

    i was wondering if ptcl officials work for 1 hour a day then it will take a month till 24 working hours.

    PTCL provides such a stupid service. I would like to throw the modem into a grave and not to take out anymore. If the PTCL cannot provide the best service, so then why they started this service. I hate DSL so much….!!!!!
