For last few years, I had been managing my domains’ email addresses using outlook express or Mozilla Thunderbird. It’s really a very hectic task to manage all of them one by one for each domain. So, I decided to explore Google Apps to manage all my email addresses and contacts at one place right in my Gmail Account.

Other biggest reason which insisted me to try Google Apps is that I’ve been getting a ton of spam emails in my inbox at shafiq.pk. It’s a real pain to filter through it to retrieve the valuable information. I did enabled the spam filter provided by the web host and I’ve been generally careful with where I’ve posted the email so I’m not certain why or how I’m getting crushed with spam.

Google Apps is a Rich Internet Application (RIA) that hosts customized versions of Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar, and Page Creator on your domain. The service is offered in both a free and premium versions.

I believe that there are more than 10 reasons to migrate your custom domain emails to Google Apps, but I am writing some of them.

Hi nice post, i read your blog from time to time but i was wondering something. I also run a blog on a similar topic, but i get 1,000's of spam comments and emails every day does that happen to you.. Any ideas to stop it? I currently have commenting disabled but i want to turn it back on.. Thanks!

BUT if we talking practically ,
According to my observation usually companies did not setup Live Exchange server as this process icrease their cost. They must have an alternate backup of ISP, a strong hardware firewall that protect them from threats and attacks.
so usually companies purcahse some paid hosting services where they host their domain,setup pop accounts and then retrieve email from that servers.
as we are in Pakistan and mostly hosting providers are only reseller they don't have their own setup except few like Cyber . so ultimately a security risk is still present in this scenario.
A middle person is still exists...!

Google App is no doubt the Best Webmail Client which is offering all those smart features for FREE. We should definitely use it but It should be avoided to host emails of organizations which involves National Security Risks. I know some high officials of Pakistani Govt who are using Gmail to discuss their secretes :)

Shafiq it's a very informative post. infact i completely agreed with you as when my company's email server crashed last month. i plan to migrate on the same resulting save maintenace and decresed hardware cost with almost 100% uptime Guarantee by Google.

Setting up your own email server with utility like ALT-n Mdaemon or setting up your own Microsoft exchange server is a hectic process.

due to some policies matter we haven't migrate there but soonly we planned to switch over there so i can access my emaiaccount@company.com from Gmail.com .
