Competition Race Begins: PTCL DSL and LinkDotNet DSL
March 8, 2008 – 12:50 am | by Shafiq Rehman

So much has been written about the broadband internet services in Pakistan. As we all know that as competition increases, the quality of service increases and keeps costs manageable. So, this is the time to get some quality service from the top DSL providers; as the competition race has begun. Few days ago, PTCL which is the biggest broadband player in the market lowered its prices for their DSL service. Infact they didn’t lowered the prices but they raises the Speed and removed the monthly bandwidth download limit cap from all DSL packages. PTCL’s competitor LinkDotNet, which is the newest broadband service provider in the market also revised their packages accordingly.
Interesting thing is that both have removed the 256Kbps package from the list, so one cannot subscribe for the 256Kbps.
New prices are as follows:
| Speed | Volume | PTCL Monthly | LDN Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 512 Kbps | UnLimited | Rs.1199 | Rs.1200 |
| 1 Mbps | UnLimited | Rs.1999 | Rs.2000 |
| 2 Mbps | UnLimited | Rs.4999 | Rs.3900 |
Above mentioned prices are only available for new customers and the existing customers of PTCL and LinkDotNet will be shifted to new plans in the mid of March.
PTCL has also introduced some packages for students and giving them 30% discount on all packages. This offer is valid for only those students whose institute is registered with PTCL.
Now the question is who will win the race? Different people have different opinions, views and experiences with the broadband providers. Some are very happy with PTCL and some are commited with LDN but I had a very bad experience with PTCL DSL, therefore I terminated the DSL connection. I am using WorldCall Wireless which is much better than PTCL DSL, having said that at least I am connected to the World
I think both have to improve their quality of service and after sale customer support rather than lowering the prices to capture the broadband market.
