TP-LINK TD-W8920G Wireless ADSL2 Router Review
April 22, 2008 – 11:49 pm | by Shafiq Rehman

I had been planning to buy a wireless DSL Router for last few weeks and after doing some online research (yes I do research) about different DSL routers, I finalized the LINKSYS. I was about to buy the linksys wireless DSL router but my friend and colleague Abbas Ahmed (Network Manager) suggested me to buy the TP-LINK which is very cost effective and its performance is much better than linksys.
Moreover the sales guy at TP-LINK distribution office told us some technical specifications and motivated us to buy the TP-LINK.
Why I bought TP-LINK TD-W8920G Router
- All-in-one combo box with WiFi, ADSL2 Router and 4 ports for LAN
- 108M for Rs.3000 While LinkSys’s 54M was more than Rs.4500
- It is really very cheap, I bought this for only Rs. 3000 (USD 48)
- It is “Made in China”
I took it and configured it at my home and I was amazed that it’s setup is pretty much simple that any novice can install and configure it very easily.
TD-W8920G comes with the following assessories
- One TD-W8920G 108M Wireless ADSL2+ Router
- One DC power Adapter for TD-W8920G 108M Wireless ADSL2+ Router
- Quick Installation Guide
- One RJ45 cable
- Two RJ11 cables
- One ADSL splitter
- One Resource CD for TD-W8920G 108M Wireless ADSL2+ Router, including:
- This User Guide and other Helpful Information
The router has eXtended Range™ WLAN transmission technology so that transmission distance is 2-3 times of traditional IEEE 802.11g/b solutions. It is compatible with all IEEE 802.11g and IEEE 802.11b products. In addition, it also adopts 108M Super G™ WLAN Transmission Technology. I did a thorough test on its extended range with my WLAN enabled Nokia N81-8GB and its extended range is awesome. It’s range varies from 100 – 250 feet depending upon the number of things such as the concrete walls and WAPDA power supply polls etc. Moreover you can maximize the strength of WiFi signals with some simple techniques
Only one thing which disappointed me are its LEDS located at front panel of the router. The ADSL LED keeps blinking while I am connected to internet which creates confusion because constantly blinking LEDS means a sign of some problem in connecting to the ISP.
