Mobilink Infinity: Wimax Broadband by Mobilink
We already covered the WiMax Service provided by the Wateen Telecom last year and reviewed about their quality of service and their package details. Initially their QoS was very poor and bad but now they have learnt from their own experiences and providing a stable service and acceptable customer support.Mobilink, an Orascom Telecom Company recently launched their next generation broadband technology know as “Mobilink Infinity” in Karachi few months ago. Everybody knows that Mobilink is the Pakistan’s largest GSM provider and serving more than 30 mollion subscribers all over the Pakistan. Infact this is great news that Paksitan’s telecom comapnies are investing in broadband voice and data services and they can play a vital role to gear up the economy.
Mobilink Infinity and Waten Wimax are direct competitors in the broadband business and we should expect some improvements in their quality of service due to the fact that whenever competition increases, the quality of service also increases and keeps price manageable. Mobilink Infinity is initialy launched in metropolitan city Karachi and will be expanded to other cities like Lahore and Islamabad.
Motorola-based 802.16e-2005 wimax network will enable mobilink to further enhance their current service offerings to high speed internet and voip services for business and residential users.

Mobilink Infinity has the poorest signals, the users i know are returning their devices to Mobilink because of poor coverage. Mobilink has an Histroty for poor coverage in all area of their services.

Dear Jamil, the answer is yes, the device which mobilink infinity is providing is made in Germany “Siemens” device behaving as a router with a built-in DHCP server, although there is only one ethernet port but still you can connect multiple PCs if you have a switch or wifi router, so conclusion is that WiMAX can also be shared like DSL.
Mobilink Infinity is the best, signal coverage is awesome throughout Karachi, mobilink has the potential to take WiMAX at its peak, its already working as GSM company & u know what…they know where u live.

Dear Fatima, You can call mobilink helpline 369 from your mobilink number to enquire your data cap status. Moreover, I would recommend you to download and install Networx software. Its a free software you can search on google. With it you can get track of your data cap.

I have used both Wateen and Infinity and i will recommend you Mobilink infinity its quite cheaper and better than Wateen. I had a very bad experience with wateen regarding service and coverage. Mobilink CPE is also better than Wateen’s Motorolla one.
Huh, You people think that mobilink will provide u true broadband…. Remmember they also have fixed quota on every package.. Why people hate wateen, coz it has traffic limit on each package and mobilink is also offering packages with traffic limit……

My usage of PTCL dsl per month is more than 20 GB…
I am using Wateen’s Winmax 1mbps/5GB package and I am getting 139Kb/s dowload speed.
by the way, motorolla is providing wateen with different devices. There is one with two antennas on top of it, and there is a tiny little one. Then there are the outdoor units. Experience is that the tiny one without any visible antenna is the one which gets the best reception. I believe it is called the Jupiter CPE. Mobilink is providing its users with a siemens Wimax Modem. Initially mobilink provided its users with a zyxel CPE which had a built-in wi-fi capability. If you had a wi-fi enabled laptop, you wouldn’t need to connect a cable to your laptop at all. That was a good VAS, but now, with the siemens CPE, it is not so. The other benefit of the Zyxel modem was, that there used to be an outdoor solution to it as well in places where the reception was bad. Now, with siemens, that has been discontinued. Difference between wateen and infinity is that wateen is prepaid now, whereas infinity is postpaid. You get a trial period for 7 days, and if you apply fir discontinuation within 7 days, you get a hundred percent refund.
The thing is, no wimax operator gives you CIR (confirmed Information Rate). That means, your connection will always be a shared connection. If you’re given a speed of 1mbps, that speed will be shared amongst a number of people. Usually 6 to 8. So, it’s pure luck. If the people with whom you are sharing the bandwidth are dull internet chatters, cheers to you…. otherwise, you’re done for it!

Mobilink Infinity sucks in the same way like Wateen. The Wimax technology still need more time to substitute DSL.
May be the reason behind low quality of service is due to domestic infrastructure of Electric cables lower the signal strength.
i will appreciate if somebody comments regarding WorldCall Evo.
