Job Seeking Advice For College Graduates

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

After spending many late nights studying at the college library and hurrying to finish your term papers, you have finally graduated and it is now time to search for full-time employment. However, unless you have special training in a particular field, many college graduates will have to search for entry-level positions. The job search for an entry-level position is often difficult, but having an impressive entry level resume can help.

Beat The Rush:

Well before your diploma has been handed to you it is important to send in your entry level resume to as many companies as possible. This would include researching companies that are currently hiring and submitting your resume to the Human Resources department or the person in charge of hiring.

Evaluate The Skills You Possess

As a recent college graduate, you might have few, if any experience in the fields in which you are seeking employment. This might entail you making a list of all the skills you possess along with any training you might have received during your college years. Any skill or experience such as Captain of the debate team, or Vice President of the Student Government Association should be noted on your entry level resume. This can help your to stand out among other entry level applicants.

Checkout online job portals

Visit http://www.rozee.pk and search for entry level jobs. upload your resume to their resume bank. There are 40% chances that employer will contact you by searching the skills you mentioned in your resume.
Check Out Your College’s Career Center

Once you have decided which of your skills to emphasize and have listed them within your entry level resume, you can use these skills to narrow down your search for a job. A great place to start your search is at your college’s career center. Many career centers will have job listings of companies interested in hiring college graduates, along with resources to help you write your resume and help you land a successful job interview. However, it is recommended that you not only submit your resume to companies that have posted vacancies, but to other companies you are interested in that might be hiring in the future.

Remember, the key ingredient in your job search is you. You must decide what you want and start early to work to achieve this new goal.

My ZCE Certificate

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Wo-hoo! I received the printed ZCE certificate on 20th March, 2007, which is about 12 weeks after the exam (25th Dec, 2006).

The surprise was that it even came in with a ZCE Sticker (still wondering where to place it). I also received a signed letter from Dhawani Vahia (Education Programs Manager) in which she stated “Get Your own Zend Certified Engineer business cards for FREE! from everydatorint.com using username ZEND003466 and password XXXXXXXXXXXXXX to order today”. Unfortunately I am unable to login to that site to get this bonus offer ;)

rozee.pk job fair 2007

Job fairs are becoming a common means of entry level recruiting. For the corporate recruiter, they offer an opportunity to reach interviewing terminal velocity. The highest possible number of prospects in the shortest possible amount of time. For many students, job fairs provide a “freebie” opportunity to meet with hiring employers.

I attended rozee job fair on Sunday, March 18th 2007 at Expo Center Fortress Stadium Lahore. I saw lot of my friends in the event, looking good in suits.

Although Job Fair 2006 was excellent but this time it was much bigger and very successfull. Lot of multinational companies and famous brands were invited in the fair. All the Telecom companies except Waridtel were there to hunt the talent.

I beleive on “Be +ve and Think +ve”, so here are some plus points in job fair 2007.

  • Companies got quality CVs from job seekers
  • Companies conducted onsite interviews
  • More females attended job fair than 2006
  • Special people were also there
  • Lot of parents were also there with their daughters & sons
  • Training seminars were excellent

3rd ZCE from Pakistan

ZCE Logo

Well, after dreaming for more than a year to become ZCE, I finally passed the Zend PHP Certification exam today. It was rather tough. Most of the questions were confusing.

To pass the exam, I recommend you get comfortable with array manipulation, regular expression, dates, file streams, solving syntactical problems and excellent memory to remember function names and their purpose. I have signed and accepted the NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement), so I cannot disclose any more information.

Zend Study guides & Practice Test Books are excellent but you must have years of practical experience in php and mysql to pass the exam. The result of the exam is boolean (True or False) Smile. It would be better if ZEND disclose the result.

I am thrilled to have accomplished this feat after much preparation. However, I did get plenty of support. As they say, behind every successful man there is a woman and in my case it was my wife!
